Location: Vermont | Ultradot I'm fairly new to handguns. My son just bought me a Mark III 22/45 Talo Edition, Model 10143. My 59 year old eyes aren't getting the best results from the factory sights. Another Forum recommended an Ultradot. I've looked at them online and really like the compact size. Anyone have any experience with them, and would you recommend? Thanks |

Location: West Virginia | Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the 10143. I just got one a few months ago and I really like it. I think it is a great looking pistol. I am 65 and of course my eyes are not what they used to be. The stock black rear and front sight wasn't working too well for me either. I put a set of Williams Fire Sights on mine and it made a world of difference. The Ultradot is a fine red dot scope and while I don't have that particular one, I do have a smaller Red dot (Bushnell TRS25) and I now have it on my MKIII Target pistol. Red dots are much easier to use for old eyes but I still like using iron sights, so that is why I put the Firesights on my 22/45. Good luck. |

You're right. I don't see it on their web site, either. If you Google Ruger model 10143, you can at least see what it is. I just got mine back in October and the case has July 2012 as date of manufacture, so I don't believe they are discontinued. You can also see them at Gallery of Guns. |

Location: northern Wisconsin | I've got three Ultradots, plus a couple of the Bushnell TRS-25s. The Ultradots are certainly more expensive, but they are also better quality and about as magnum proof as a red dot can get. Have two on 30-30 rifles and one on my GP-100 and never, ever a single issue. Considering, too, that all Ultradots have a lifetime warranty, you can't go wrong. The Ultradot 25 and Ultradot 30 have a 4 MOA dot and the more expensive Matchdot versions have a selectable MOA that goes down as small as 2 MOA. The TRS-25 is plenty good enough for rimfire work, though, and I love it for its compact size and 3 MOA dot size. Price is nicer, too. Only negative is that the TRS-25 is a bit fussier than an Ultradot about getting the eye directly behind the unit to see the red dot. Not a big deal, by any means. For general purpose work, I like a 3 or 4 MOA dot, so unless you are actually competing, I'd recommend an Ultradot 25 or the TRS-25. Both great choices. Location: Vermont | Mark III 22/45 optics Thanks NCG, As I said I am new to handguns and all the sight options, so I got a long ways to go, but, I appreciate the input on the Bushnell TRS 25 vs the Ultradot 25. I may, in fact, try the TRS 25 first only because of the lower price. Gotta start somewhere, right? I'll see where it leads from there. Thanks for your honest take on the topic. Tom |

Location: Orlando florida | Ultradot makes a nice red dot and the battery lasts a long time. There's about a dozen setting of brightness, but I only use the fourth setting and that's plenty bright. I you decide to get the Ultradot Scope you will be very happy wiyh it, I love mine. |

Location: Southwest Florida | Homeboy, I've got UltraDots on 2 of my .22 caliber target pistols. I really like them and would highly recommend them. My eyes are older than yours and they really do help. A lot! I also own 2 Bushnell TRS-25 red dots installed on two very accurate Belgium made Browning .22 caliber pistols. I can tell you, from experience, that you should look at these too, before going with the UltraDot. They are a lot less expensive, smaller, compact, and very reliable. Also, they have a 3 MOA dot size which, if you like to shoot indoor range targets is great at the lowest brightness settings. Whatever you choose, I highly recommend you add a red dot to your new pistol. You'll like it. Edit to apologize to NCG. I should have read all the replies more carefully before offering my 'redundant' suggestions. Sorry NCgal, you had it nailed. But, it does appear that 'Great-Minds-Think-Alike.' Location: Kansas | I have an Ultradot that I sent in because the switch started to have some problems after 20+ years of usage on various guns and they replaced the switch for no charge. Very satisfied with their CS, turnaround was less than 2 weeks, IIRC. I also have a couple Bushnell TRS-25s and their switch is a lot more difficult to turn than the Ultradot switch. Bushnell CS is top notch as well. Either one is accurate enough to hit walnuts @ 50'. |
